What it does
Secondary research: gathers existing studies, articles, market reports and statistics, condenses them into findings, and — the part that matters — names the gaps where the data does not exist.
When to reach for it
At the start, to get oriented before spending money on primary research. Or to check whether an assumption you are carrying is already answered somewhere.
Worth knowing
The gap list is often more useful than the findings. It tells you what your own research has to cover.
