What it does

Extends a customer journey below the line: what the customer does, what they see the team do (frontstage), and what systems back that up (support processes). Backstage — what the organization actually does to make it happen — stays empty until you fill it in; that is your team’s own knowledge, not something to guess.

When to reach for it

After the customer journey, before you build the service. The journey is the map of the experience; the blueprint is the working surface — it names where the promise up front and what happens behind the scenes do not match.

Worth knowing

The break at the line of visibility is the point of the method, not a side note. A blueprint with no breaks named hasn’t found the gap yet — every service has at least one place where the frontstage promises more than the backstage can reliably deliver.
